FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a country for my studies?

It depends on your budget and your personal interests. Most countries now offer a very wide range of courses, so first look for the country that offers you the best choice of course as well as good employment opportunities. Cost matters too: for example, a Master's course in the UK usually lasts only one year, which cuts the cost of your studies substantially compared with the USA or Australia. Golden Globe Overseas Education helps you make this analysis and zero in on the country that suits you best.

How do I know which university is best for me?

Every country has university rankings, but a ranking should not be the only thing you look at. The university that suits you best is one that: (1) is accredited by the recognised authority in its country; (2) offers the course you are looking for; (3) accepts your qualifications for that course; and (4) is in a location you would like to live in. Once these four points are checked, you can look at the financial side.

When should I apply for admission to a college or university?

Most colleges and universities in the UK and the USA have two main intakes, in September and in January/February, while in Germany the intakes are in April and October. It is best to secure your admission about three months before the intake month, so that the process is smooth and you have time to plan comfortably. If you apply late, the seats may fill up, and you could miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or have to compromise on your choice of university, your tuition fees or the quality of education. To avoid this, we advise you to make your choices and decisions well in time.

Can I work while I study?

Yes. Legally, under student visa regulations, you are permitted to work between 15 and 20 hours a week during term, and full time (40–45 hours a week) during vacations. In the UK you can work on or off campus, while in the USA only on-campus jobs are allowed. However, as a student you cannot run a business, be self-employed, or work as a professional sportsperson or entertainer, and you cannot take up a permanent full-time job. Work rules differ from country to country and change from time to time, so we check the current rules for your destination with you.
